Do you say yes to opportunities that get thrown at you? There are always opportunities in life, whether they are as small as saying yes to attending an event or as big as saying yes to a business deal. The opportunities in life are endless and many people don’t really see the ones that are in their daily lives. Especially people who are in college, I am a junior at Iowa State University and I see and encounter opportunities all the time. I know other people spot these chances but rarely take them because they either think that it won’t help them or they are just too lazy to get out of their bubble to do something that is different.

I have heard numerous success stories from other people on how one opportunity lead them to another and how it ultimately got them to their million dollar successes today. An opportunity is literally like a domino effect, once you take one you run into another and then another and soon enough you just keep getting these great circumstances. Then you look back to that first opportunity that you took and realize how important that first step was. I know this is a real thing because it personally happened to me.

Story Time 🙂

Rewind back when I was going into my sophomore year of college, so about a year ago, it was during ISU business week and I had the opportunity to go listen to a speaker for extra credit for one of my classes. I distinctly remember I was sick, irritated, cold, and the last thing I wanted to do was to go listen to a boring speaker for an hour. However, I needed extra credit for my class so I decided to go to one that talked about entrepreneurship, because I was always interested in that field. So I walked in the classroom, sat down in the middle row and saw the speaker walk in and I thought to myself, “Why am I here, I could be asleep in my bed right now.” The minute the speaker started to talk, my mind shifted gears and I soon found myself getting drawn into the speech. Brandon T. Adams spoke about his journey through what he had went through to where he was at now. I saw the passion he had about entrepreneurship and inspiring others and right then I knew I wanted to help him. When he got done with his speech I got his business card, reached out to him, and helped him with an event, the Young Entrepreneur Convention. After working with him the opportunities just came in bowl fulls, I got to meet big name people such as John Lee Dumas, Kevin Harrington, Forbes Riley, Jeff Hoffman, and many more successful people. Soon enough I got to meet his team, worked with him in his companies, and now I am honored to be business partners with him.

Moral of the story is, ONE opportunity, just ONE speaker, that I went to for extra credit turned into a year full of opportunities and a business deal. If I hadn’t gone to that one speaker I probably wouldn’t have had all of these chances to grow as an individual. It really is about that one opportunity that you take and then the rest is like a domino effect.

Next time you see an opportunity which may not seem like that big of a deal, TAKE IT. Just take it, because you don’t know what great outcomes will follow along with it.
