My dream from high school finally came true. From the lit up buildings to the Hershey’s factory, I finally made it to New York City. Ever since I was young I always dreamt of going to NYC, living there and taking in the good old sound of traffic and the smell of food on every corner. I had many firsts coming to NYC such as taking the subway, running across the streets, and trying amazing food. That dream came true on Wednesday when I got the opportunity to fly out to NYC for my scholarship reception dinner. Out of 200 winners across the nation, I was one of them that got chosen based on a case study. A lot of people in college wouldn’t take the opportunity to do a detailed case study with a $5,000 award. Many students would begin working on it but would see how much work it would take and then would drop it. However, knowing the great outcome of a cash scholarship and the chance to network with big name CEO’s in NYC was a game changer.

I knew I had to do this scholarship because for one it came with a great financial enhancement and I had the chance to reach one of my goals. The three days I was in NYC were surreal. Along with the scholarship reception gala, I attended this cocktail party with numerous CEO’s of big companies. This event was HUGE; it was the place to be that Thursday night in NYC with about 1,500 people there. It was like the scene out of the movie, The Devil Wears Prada, big name people attended and it was a great honor and tremendous achievement of being there. That night I thought to myself, “Wow, working hard really does pay off.”

There were numerous times during the semester that I was so busy I thought I was going to quit working on the case study because it was just an extra thing to do. That I wasn’t guaranteed a scholarship so why waste my time hoping that I would win right? No. Wrong, once I started that case study I worked harder than no other. I believed and already knew that I was going to be a winner, I put in my schedule the dates I would be gone for the scholarship and would work around being in NYC for a couple days. I told myself that I would be there, meeting these people, I SAW myself there. I visualized myself walking down NYC, seeing Time Square, and that room filled of ambitious people. That visualization came true; I believed in it so much that it happened. Not out of luck, but out of pure belief and hard work. Like the famous Napoleon Hill stated “Whatever the mind can conceive and believe the mind can achieve.” That quote sure is the real deal, states it just as it needs to be done.

Leaving NYC after the best three days was definitely a struggle. I saw myself living in New York City, walking down the streets on the daily, and having my own brick and mortar clothing store there. Now that I have achieved this goal of going to NYC I have created another goal of living there in the summer. I have already visualized myself staying at a nice apartment there and believed that I can obtain an internship. Because it’s all about visualizing and believing, and the rest is luck right? 😉
