-POP-
Oops, just popped your comfort bubble! Don’t worry, one day you will thank me for popping the bubble that you were living in. Everyone puts up a guard that they have and limit themselves by it because they are afraid to do anything that is out of the ordinary. At one time I always stayed in my comfort zone, I would never do anything that would scare me and put me at ease because I was uncomfortable. However, there was never any excitement in my life when I did stay in my bubble. When I realized that there is more to life than just doing the same routine, I started to see more successes, connections, and work get done.
College is the best time to really explore different things that you never imagined doing. People go into college knowing that they want to stick to one field but end up hopping to different majors and then finding what they love. Surprisingly, I never changed my major and stuck with my two but that didn’t mean I stayed in my comfort zone. I did numerous things that really took me out of my comfort zone to get over some of the fears that I had.
Back in high school I was a very shy person, I hated speaking in front of a crowd, and didn’t really enjoy networking with other people. When I got to college I started realizing that I need to get over my fear of public speaking and being more approachable when I would attend networking events. Entrepreneurship is something that I always wanted to do, but that included being confident and breaking out of my comfort zone. So I started doing exactly that, when I was an intern for the Young Entrepreneur Convention I had to speak in front of big lecture halls to market this event. I was nervous and scared but after the first time I did it, I felt relieved and it started to get easier and easier.
After that, I got the opportunity to introduce Brandon at the Young Entrepreneur Convention in front of 500 people and that was when I broke my fear of public speaking and gained so much confidence. Now I can speak in front of crowds, do Facebook lives, and network comfortably with no hesitation.
If you are doing what you love but are cutting yourself short from doing so because you have these fears that are stopping you, break them! That is the best advice that I can tell anybody who is chasing their dreams. It’s so much easier to get closer to that dream when you don’t limit yourself. Your body and mind gain confidence when you know that you are putting 110% in whatever it is that you are working in.
We all have huge hopes and dreams of making our family proud and becoming the next Steve Job or Oprah Winfrey but they all got to that point by doing things that were outside of their bubble.
I challenge all of you guys who are reading this to try doing something that is outside of your comfort zone everyday for ten days. Just try it and see how you feel after conquering some fears that you may have had.
I am positive that you will be overjoyed about how you feel and will feel ten times more confident about yourself.
